I use Hikari blood worms, protien 5.9%. Never heard of that much protien, who's it made by? Are you sure its not 5.4%. If you think he's improving, just keep your eye on him, plenty of water changes and dont forget to give him a bit more choice. Good luck.
I mean, moisture content is 80%, yes, but I subtracted that and calculated the protein value of the WORMS themselves. I got 54% from there.

Dunno... Frozen food does lose a lot of its nutritional value. My bloodworms only have like 15% protein. I also just give it in addition to other foods coz they seem to love it so much. Dunno much about internal parasites, but I know that if you start varying their diet now then it might help. Try Hikari or New Life Spectrum. My fish eat that and they go nuts for it. There is garlic in and all kinds of stuff. Their website is http://nlsfishfood.com/

Good luck! ;)

Like stated earlier if it is still white, stringy and they do stop eating sometimes it is hard to bring them back from there.
Be sure that he is eating cause on many instances like this they appear to try to eat and constantly spit it back out without ever actually eating.
If at all possible I would quarantine and observe. If you do treat most any of the name products are good. Mardel, Aquarium Pharmaceudical, etc.
Medicated food is irrelavent if he is no longer eating, the only option at that point is to try to force feed with medicated food which could stress to the point of death anyway.

54% protein for bloodworms is nuts. Are they farm bred and injected with steroids? I think you should switch to a more nutritional staple pellet food, and complement that with some vitamins like Boyds Vita chem.

I have a tiger oscar that let loose a long, white stringy the other day...I feed (in the winter) almost exclusively Hikari Staple and Gold as well as live crickets.

He only did it once so far (2 days ago) and I thought it was just a protein discharge from cricket exoskeletons. He eats fine and does not seem to be out of sorts since then, but have not been able to catch him in the act of excreting since.

What exactly is this supposed to be a sign of?

When a fish is excreting fecies looking white and stringy, very thin or thread like it usually is a sign that a fish has some kind of intestinal problems. They can excrete a white fecies also in good health but it usually is larger like a normal sized discharge.
Also if it is a sickness it will just hang there. It won't be a one time thing. Usually they will stop feeding not to long after this.

I'm not lying. After calculation the raw protein content of bloodworms is indeed 54% (minus the moisture content of the cube itself). I've already switched to pellets (Tetra cichlid sticks) but I'm wondering if bloodworms are good as occasional treats. I'm pretty sure they're the cause of the white stringy poo though.

I haven't noticed anymore white poo since that one sighting, so is this a one-off thing and not a sign of parasites?

As long as it looks normal now and is eating I would not worry about it.
