On my 10 gallon planted my nitrates are only about 10 ppm after a month with the same water. If i didnt have the test kit i would be performing water changes every week for no reason.

What is the best kit to get? I know there is some that are a couple bucks, but then there is others that are 50 bucks...
 
They should be around $30 but they will last a couple months and are essentials to fish keeping IMO. Its called API Master Test Kit.
