White Sturgeon - (Acipenser ruthenus)???

I saw this fish for sale at:

I was just wondering where else i could get this fish i really want one and this breed you could say grow slow so i wanted to buy now and get him started in my 55 gallon tank alone then buy his final tank in about a year. but my problem is i cant find a place that stocks them.

you will most likely need a chiller as well. how big is the final enclosure going to be?

Try 2000+ gallons for his final tank. You do realize that in a few decades, you'd have a 10'+ fish, right?
 
Those things get way to big for any home tank - unless you are building your own.
Think about free swimming room for a 10 foot plus fish.
Also consider they prefer cold water.

I think they should be available, but not as accessible or cheap. I'd eventually like to get one (well, another one...), but I'm planning on waiting till I have a place to build a very large outdoor pond for it to grow into (so it will be a LONG time). I've worked with them and they are awesome fish with tons of personality, but NOT a normal home aquarium species.


Now, if you can find a sterlet or little white sturgeon (which I just realized is the fish you gave a scientific name for in the thread title...), you would have a slightly more plausible situation on your hands. They get between 3 and 5' so while they would need a VERY large tank, but a good sized garden pond should accommodate one.

Since you titled this thread "white sturgeon" I think everyone skipped the scientific name and assumed you meant A. transmontanus which can get well over 10' given enough room...
....hmm, looking at the live aquaria page for the sturgeon, it has the sterlet's scientific name, but the common name normally used for transmontanus and the picture looks a lot like a transmontanus as well....I'm confused as to what they're selling. I wonder if the error is in the picture or the latin name.....
