Here is my cohab tank, in the 2-3 months it was going I lost 1 Zamora cat.
I recently sold the piranhas so needless to say it isn't running anymore :P

Although that gourami, the raph cat and the black tetras lived with the piranhas their whole lives...I had them for something like 5 months+

You decide to go a different direction?

Yeah I got bored of them and I didn't have room to house them for life.
Plus I had a cramped 65 with too many sa cichlids haha so they had to be moved. The kicker is my lfs gave me a $75 credit (which is fine because that is what I was asking for all 6 anyway) and they are sellin them for $50 a piece haha ooooooooh well!

Someone on this board has a sig line that sums this up. I don't recall who's sig line it is but...it goes something like:

Dumb people don't learn from their mistakes, smart people learn from their own mistakes, wise people learn from others mistakes.

This sums it up nicely. Why should I reinvent the wheel. If i have read over and over and over that African cichlids and SA cichlids shouldn't be put together, is there really a good reason to try it just to be sure?

$75 credit isn't bad. Sad to see you go but you've got a nice lookin jag. Good luck with breeding it

Yes, because there's many variables that can factor in to past failure. We'll never make a break through on anything without pushing the envelope.

of course people with no first hand experience are giving answers! this is a forum isn't it ? not everyone here is a marine biologist and has a 500 gallon tank to try a cohab in like previously said i dont need to jump off a building to know it hurts research tells me it does. now that being said i do agree that in this forum specificaly there is alot of misinformation going around (specificaly regarding tankmates) i think regarding tankmates it all depends on the fish i have 5 convicts in with my 6 piranhas in a 150 gallon tank they've been in there for atleast 3 months with nothing more than some fin nips they actualy chase away the piranhas (a pair of cons even has some babies right now) there is also a pleco in there. what does this tell you my piranhas are very forgiving to tank mates others might not me this is especialy true when the tank mates are other piranhas from a different genus.

now 100gallons im going to apologize, you weren't acting like a smart @$$
i said it becuase in most of the threads about piranha tankmates ive seen some very knowledgable people answer(and yet some really stupid people also answer) and in my opinion you sounded like you were talking down to them. in this forum we have some real idiots(who im not going to mention by name here) and some true geniuses (Jp, Diogenes im looking at you) and many of us are still learning and i agree with you that many of the cohabs shouldn't be talked down to as much as they are but it always should merely be suggested that it may not work out, or be ready to separate them

oh and great answer JP

:WHOA: i'm blushing :)

I understand the point you are trying to make but

I think it is perfectly valid for people to use information thay have read to comment on questions posted. I have read that mollies can live in brackish water but I have never seen it myself but it should be valid for me to say so.

There is a huge amount of information published that we should be able to quote on as this is often the best way to gather info.

On the P community point, I have never tried but have read from members that they have failed to do so. So I would be quoting someone with firsthand expearence. My opinion would be that most of the time it doesn't work.

I would agree with everything jp80911 has said.
