I noticed that I haven't seen my betta all day today. Digging through the plants I finally found the front half of him. That's all that was left. No fins or anything else.:WHOA:

I can't figure out who ate him though. He's in a heavily planted 55 with:
zebra danios
2 redtail sharks about 2" - 2 1/2"
4 tiger barbs about 3/4" - 1"
2 Blue Paradise Gouramis about 2" - 2 1/2"
1 well fed peacock eel about 7"

So who could've ate half of him? I just don't get it. He was hanging out on the bottom of the tank yesterday. Maybe he was sick? I've been trying to get the water to the right params over the past week. Maybe it was too much stress for him? I dunno. I want to add another, but not if there's a fish in there that's going to keep eating them.

my guess is that he dies and they ate him postmortum

Did you take tranquilizers before you went to bed? Perhaps YOU ate him!? Lets not throw blame around without evidence. LOL

yeah I'm voting with the Tiger Barbs. Those guys are evil little fish. I would never keep those in a community tank unless they are the smallest fish in there.

I agree, Tiger barbs and Bettas are a bad combo.

Other than the danios they are the smallest fish in the tank. Actually I think even most of the danios are bigger than them right now.

I was thinking that maybe he was sick and died, then the fish ate him. I now have the water parameters to where everything should be. Think it would be safe to add another betta?

well dead or alive I 'd put money the Tiger Barbs are the ones who picked him apart. I personally would get rid of the barbs and get the betta then get some kind of tetras or something. They are like little pestering wolves in my opinion. They'll gang up on fish and nip them to death. He may have died of natural causes but I think down the road when they get bigger you could be asking for trouble. Just my opinion, but if you can tell I don't really care for tiger barbs :D

Well I'm doing a biotope tank, so I'd like to keep the barbs if I can. I didn't really care for tiger barbs either until I put these in this tank. Now I think they add a lot to it. I've had them before in other tanks and they did nothing for me though.
