Who ate my betta?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I agree with the people who said tiger barbs - those guys can nip fish like that to shreds, as I saw at one LFS that had them in with guppys :o! I never went there again.
I would say the tiger barbs in the corner with the candlestick :P.

buy saying that the betta was hanging in the bottom i think it was sick coz bettas ussually are top dwellers, my best bet is it was dieing and some fish finished it off.

eel????

I'm almost sure it's the eel for some reasons:
The eel is the biggest fish
Eels are known to be carnivorous
They do have very sharp teet and bite very hard

The eel must've finished it during the night.

yep.

i think its the eel too.

i had a eel that ate so much he grew from 3 inches to 14 inches really fast.
he ate soooooooo many feeder fishes when they got near its hiding spot.

then again.
i dunno wtf would eat a BETTA....

i bought one once, thinking it would be tight to see it get eaten by my flower horn....

turns out... he MASHED it and spit it out.

not even worth eating he says~

No, not a peacock eel....

They have small mouths and no teeth, they eat there food whole, a 7" one would never be able to eat a betta. Unless, he got half of it in his mouth and something stressed it cause it to regurgate the betta, still way far-fetched imo.

My guess is the fish died over night and you had a feeding frenzy on the carcass. All the fish in your tank, minus the zebra Danios, can be on the aggressive side.. I've noticed in the past gourimis seem to perticularly like fish carcass's...

IMO, the peacock eel is most likely the only one that had nothing to do with it...

Yeah. The eel was buddies with the betta. They'd always be hanging out with each other. I'm thinking the gouramis and barbs ate it. My mom-in-law is giving me her two bettas this weekend so we'll see what happens.
