I always thought fish were fun to watch, but until 5 years ago I never had thought about keeping them. It was then that my girlfriend (rallysb1tch) got me interested in them and now I think my obsession even gets on her nerves a bit. Not too much though, because she still helps with water changes. She even feeds them most of the time!
I remember the Kuhli loaches that she named "Levi" and "Brian" (my college room mate) because they reminded her of sperm (we're perverts:headbang2 ). I caught myself staring at her aquarium and before I knew it I had an Oscar in a 10g with blue gravel and a Steve Irwin action figure as decoration.

I still have that Oscar:)

So, who got you in the "game" and how did it come about?

Catching native fish. I caught a little bass, and pretty soon it was a big bass. And it ate my entire native collection. SWEET!

My dad...many years ago. He always used to breed guppies in a 10 gallon tank. Woohooo! Ever since then I have always had some type of fish tank since I was about 6. I took a couple years off, when I was in college. Now I am back and more addicted than ever.

Ever since I was a young boy I have been interested in fish. I only recently bought a fish tank after the person I was dating got me into it. Damn you bruce!

my dad was into it since he was a child. somehow he kept interest in the hobby from age 13 to 50+ although he hasnt caught up with the new "ethics" like weekly water changes, lol. He doesnt "believe" in heaters. I take care of the water changes and heating on his tanks. He used to have 30+ fish at a time, but then they died off one by one. When I was born my mom sold his 40 to their friends when they moved without telling my dad...with 3 african cichlids inhabiting it... He threw a fit and got a 55 with a gorgeous oak stand and thats been the main tank for 20+ years...

I wasnt really interested until I went up to my god parents house in new york. My godbrother Nick had a 220g with a Pacu, Snakehead, and a few other giants. He also had a few other tanks with some clownfish, a few snakes, but the giants stole all of my attention.

After seeing his Pacu, I had to get 2 of them. They were awesome but I didnt know of water changes and all that stuff at the age of 13... They died after 5 (probably painful lives) but I loved them to death. I took a few years break from the hobby. although my dad got a little smarter about it, kept the tank clean, and kept a Tinfoil and Bala Shark for 8+ years... When my brother moved into his house after college he immedietely purchased a 75 and has a beautiful Oscar.

All of this combined led to me posting on this forum, building an 750g tank, and keeping 4 Pacu, and my dads overgrown Tinfoil.

my moms ex boyfriend not a pro fish keeper by anymeans had a 40 breeder or tall i belive with two red devils an oscar a texas, a Piranha and two snake heads!!

all in a 40 gallon

ahahah

but that was about 4-5 years ago

so thats what got me hooked seeing all the fish fight and over time go through pecking orders

as you know the two snakeheads come out on top and eventually grew to a little over 28 inches in that 40 breeder
