Does anyone have one that is 13+"???? mine I raised from a small juvie and raised him in a 77 gallon alone. He seems to be roughly 11" although has not grown much since he hit that mark. How old were your midas's when they exceeded one foot??? I would say mine is about 18months old. I had him for a year now so I assume he was already about 3-6 months old when I got it. Is my guy topped out at 11"??? or do you think he can still get bigger???

they are supposed to top out at 16" right???? or is that wrong??

I had one about 5 years ago that was about 14" but he was already that big when I bought him. I think it should be more then possible for you to get another inch of length on your guy it may just take awhile.

My midas is about 12" she was about 9" when I first got her about 10 months ago. From what I understand their growth rate slows down a lot after the 10" mark. My midas is still getting bigger. You could try increasing your waterchanges that might help yours to grow.

I would say 12" is more accurate then 16".
Actually if given enough space, food and clean water they will fairly easily hit 16" in 3 years or so. Males anyway. They have a manatee tank at Lowry Park Zoo that is full of 15" plus midas/red devil. I'll have to snap some pics next time I go.

Very few hobbyist have the luxury of owning a public zoo size set up. My old 14" male was grown in a 300 gallon so I am not saying those sizes are impossible I am just saying that its not an everyday size.

I forgot to mention that they were mostly donations from hobbyists who couldn't keep them any more. While I was employed there one of my jobs was to take in the donations and salt dip before going into the enclosure and a few of them came in at over 14 inches. I understand not everyone has the means to grow one to that size I was just answering the question. It is possible. I grew one from 1 inch to 15 inches plus in a 75 gallon with a 55 gallon sump in about 4 years. It's all about water quality and diet. I would agree that 12 inches or so is a good size for the average midas in the average aquarium though.
