Who Has Sampled Their Aquatic Pets In The Kitchen?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Honestly, there are tons of fish I want but I have had these fish longer. If I wanted another fish I would get another tank or just not get the fish. The species is not going to go extinct by the time my current fish dies so I have plenty of time left. I don't really get bored with my current fish because I am attached to most of them like I am my cats. If I want other stuff I face the fact that I cannot have them. We don't always get what we want.

For starters...I would not buy a fish that would outgrown my tank so I would never be in this situation. Personally...I think there should be laws against selling fish like RTC and arapaima. By not buying them I am not supporting thier continued sail. When I buy a fish or any animal I am taking that animal's life into my hands, it is my responsability to provide it with a decent home for its life span, I would never think of getting a fish that would outgrow my tank. Red devils are called devils for a reason, remember that when you buy them. What else would you expect from a large aggresive cichlid? I would not buy one and say "Wow...what a mean fish, I should eat it" when I already knew what I was getting in to.

Don't feel bad about hurting my feelings because trust me, my feelings are not hurt. Just because I don't agree with what you did does not mean I am sitting here crying "That guy ate his devils".

It is great to be on top of the food chain but keep this in mind. If ever you have a relative get killed by a wild animal don't seek out vengence on it like most people do...its just the food chain. Humans like to preach how great our statis is until we are truely put in our place by a crocodile, tiger, bear or shark. Then we get all upset and go on mass killing spree. If we truely are comfortable with our place on the food chain then another human being eaten would not be a big deal.

Just for clarification. I have no problem with meat eating or people who eat meat. I have a problem with factory farms and other cruel institutions like them. Thats why I can watch a cow die and not shed a tear but am still vegetarian.
I often buy fish that will out grow my tanks but very seldom have to scramble for someplace to put them. I usually have a home waiting for them by the time they get 1/2 the size I will need to dump them at. I sell them at 1/2 local price. The only tank fish that I have eaten ( other than food fish that I gave a reprieve in a tank) all died by accident. They got electricuted or cooked bt a faulty heater, died because the tank temp. dropped drasticaly during a power outage, or were killed by a tank mate. I once had a 12" b rown bullhead killed by a 3" crawdad. I don't raise pets for food but when my netherland giant rabbit got killed by an owl that couldn't carry it off I ate it.

Oh yeah, I know to a lot of fishkeepers keeping fish is about having a lot of different species or having the best fish or the newest fad. The best part about fishkeeping for me is watching a fish grow from a fry to an adult then to a bigger adult. I cannot wait till the day I can say "I have had this oscar for 13 years and he is 16" long". It makes me feel proud. I have a turtle that I have had since I was in 3rd grade...15 years I have had this animal. I feel so proud when I can tell people that, I feel like I have done a great job careing for this animal and provideing it a home. Kinda like breeding, when you breed fish you talk about them like they are your own babies. It is because of these feeling that I could never bring myself to kill my animals. My turtle is **** boreing. He is in a 40g wide and I would love to breed a cichlid in there (JD? Severum? Firemouths? Very big list) but I won't...when his time comes the tank will be available. To destroy him would make me feel like I wasted 14 years of my life on him home and food and medical, thats a lot of money spent. Besides that, after 14 years I have grown very fond of him...even if he is boreing. I learned my lesson though, I will not get another turtle but I will except the responsablity for this one.

Well if i want something, i usually get it. anything i put my mind to i can accomplish. but i am different than you, just like every zebra has different stripes i have different views on my fish than you do. my own mom thinks i am morbid for eating them, but she did laugh at the fact that im now the MONSTER FISH EATER. some people have different feelings towards fish. i regularly catch and release fish i wont eat, but if it is edible it is goin down the hatch. i have killed thousands of fish in my days, and there is no shortage of any species i have killed. most have been feeders, but there are the food fish i catch in the local lakes and ocean, the aquarium rejects that just got too large for MOST ANYONE to keep, and fish that could not find suitable homes. my motto has always been if it has enough meat to eat then dig in. last resort bro. but some fish just have to die. i am pleased that yours will live happily ever after. BUT you know who to call if all else fails. The MONSTER FISH EATER. happy fish keeping bro.

Well I am glad your taking this pretty well and your not getting defensive. I would rather see you eat a fish then it have a bad home...I just don't know how you could do it. Bragging about it is really what set me off but whatever. To eatch their own I guess.

Oh yeah, I won't call you if my fish "need a new home" besides, most are to small to eat anyway and won't get much bigger. If I needed to I think I could find them homes, I am a member on A LOT of forums where people I trust would more then likely take them.

i wasnt actually bragging so to say. i had answered to this post before they were ever dead. then i tried to sell them, and after no takers or anything i was going to eat them. other people have aten them and when i said i was gonna, people wanted pics. sorry if anyone was offended. but they were good.

You needed room and couldn't find them a home, they died quick and did not go to waste, no problem. Getting a laugh out of the situation is a bonus.

Man did i join a fishkeepers forum or a fisheaters...u guy are f**ked up...

It's one thing if you raise your fish specifily for food...not very economical...but whatever..

It's another thing to just get tired of it and eat it.....Dam i'd hate to be your kids lol...
