I have a BGK that is 14" and got him when he was as small as my little finger. I have had him about 4 1/2 years. Am going to move him to a larger tank and hope to see some more growth in the next couple of years.

Will try to post some pics later.

very nice that you succeeded in this kind of growth for your BGK.. looking forward to seeing him.

Hi, guys...I've made more posts today and than I have since I've been a member.

Our Ghost Knife is 16 years of age and is about 12" maybe a little more. I think they have a potential life span of 30 years...don't they? I don't know how to post pictures, but there is a picture of him in my little member thing that will show up beside my post. As I have mentioned in other threads today...he is very active, hand fed, and we expect to keep him a long time...as close to 30 years as we can...:D

He's in a 75 gallon community tank with no aggressive fish. We don't take any chances with him. He's so soft, I can't imagine every having him break the skin. Also as mentioned in another thread today, he's only been in my life for about 18 months, but since I started hand feeding him (few months) he is way more active and spends less time in his cave. Instead of sleeping in his cave, he lies on top of the ornaments or in the bubbles in the tank.

My spouse is the fish expert and he does most of the caretaking. I just do the feeding and adoring.

How do you know he is 16 years old..usually by that age he would be bigger but they are all different.. but 16 years old that is really special... love to hear that kind of post ... i hope you learn to post pics soon because i would love to see him. Here is my guy..i was taking pics of some new african i bought today when i looked up and saw my BGK racing all over and so i had to take a pic of him too.:D

We figured out that he is 16 years old because my sister-in-law matched it to an event in her life that happened in 1982...she had him first and then couldn't keep him. My partner thought he was about 12 or 13 and I thought that was pushing it, so when we learned this we were pretty blown away. It actually freaks me out quite a bit because I am scared of losing him, but he is healthy and pushy and his skin looks good, no damage or funny marks.

I haven't been far into this site before and was really pleasantly surprised today when I found all these Ghost Knife threads. It's awesome. No one could have told me two years ago that I would turn into a fish freak.

There is a picture of the Ghost Knife in my gallery that is maybe a year old. My TSN's picture is there too...he's about two or three years old and for me he is another mind blower.
