Who has the biggest Armatus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have one that is just over 15"...have had him for just over 1.5 yrs now. I wouldn't suggest any tank mates that are the same size or smaller thats for sure. The only survivers out of all the fish I have tried is one giant sleeper goby and a pleco. The only reason the goby is still alive is because he is so damn wide and he stays in his cave. I had two goby's but the smaller of the two got owned! Every now and then I wake up and he has a huge chunk missing out of his head but the flesh always seems to grow back. Recently the goby has been trying to flex on my armatus too it's pretty funny to watch. I'll take some pics tonight...

mine will eat silversides and market shrimp but love feeders for bulking them up

When mine was small I was able to get him to eat dried krill but now they are too small and he has no interest. His main diet is large gold fish and I try to mix in as many cichlids and other fish as I can afford. I'm thinking of starting a convict tank to see if i can get them to start breeding to use as feeders. I just try to keep my goldfish for at least a week so I can fill them up with bloodworms and veggie flakes.

Yep, Woody's one is a beast.

I really meant apart from Woody though, since other people have been importing them.

Woody's beast is going to be hard to top, and obviously he has had his for a few years.

Nice pics though guys.

So far for MFK members it looks like Trev is the winner.

What happened between him and your ATF Trev?

my armatus out grew him and decided he didnt want him in his tank anymore. the atf made it though and i still have him.

armatus goes well with bichirs or rays.

Glad to hear it Trev, I assume he is all healed etc?

I am very surprised by all accounts the Armatus is an aggressive fish. Where as the Scomberoides in my exp is not aggressive at all.

:D

I'd love to see some pics Coco. Or even a video of him chomping a cichlid. Do you think a convict feeder tank would be better than a molly feeder tank? I am not sure which one breeds more often and grows quicker.
