WHO HAS THE BIGGEST? or Can you beat this?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd like to have him in a wider tank. I'd love to have a 300. But right now that's not possible. I do the best I can with what I've got, and I think I take damn good care of him. Since you're perfect, what are you going to do when your gourami is wider than your 300? If you've got a bigger tank, then great for you. Like I said, he's not in a 55 gallon box, he gets well taken care of in his 125. When I have the funds for my dream tank, I'll move him. But right now I don't. So stop being all high and mighty and realize not everyone has deep pockets or space at the moment. I'm no noob, nor am I ignorant.

Just gonna make a point.. you are being ignorant if you know you can't keep it in conditions suitable for the fish..yet you are still keeping the fish. If your pockets ain't deep enough to finance a tank to keep this fish properly then sell the fish to someone who can and stick to fish suitable for your tank.

If my upgrade isn't ready by the time my fish outgrow my tank then ill move them on. Granted, it's not what I wanna do but if need be, I'll do it.

Where exactly is going to take a fish this size near me? The last ck I tried to re home was torn to pieces by the inhabitants in the 1200 gallon tank that I brought him to. Do you know what is like to try and rehome something like this here? There are no options for me at the moment, being in south Florida, where there are so many large and unwanted cks. I will not just turn him loose, nor will I place him in the hands of someone like the last person I trusted. When I move, I will have either a large pond, or much larger tank. For right now this is it. So stop treating me like I'm abusing an animal that I deeply care about because his tank is 2 inches too narrow. He started in a 30, then I got a 55, now I have the 125. When I can upgrade, I will. So no, I'm not ignorant. I'm trying. It's better than I can say for most people in my area that just dump unwanted fish in a pond or canal.

The tank with isnt 2 inches to small, its more than that. Just because it can turn doesnt mean it should be in that size tank.
Maybe think about the fact that he will outgrow your tank before you buy it.

Ship him. Put him on sale here where people you KNOW will take care of him. Just because the last person didn't take care of it, it doesn't mean they all won't. I'm 17, I work and do jobs as well as trying to start a business and I budget accordingly to finance my hobby. I've been offered awesome fish that I really wanted but I knew I couldn't house and so I said no. Sorry mate, you are being ignorent..you started being ignorent when your ck grew the last 4".. just because you may not be as bad as some people...it still doesn't make it right.

What did you expect people here would say? You are on a forum where people go above and beyond for their fish. No one here is going to agree with you. Sorry mate, not trying to be a dbag but it is what it is.

I got him before I knew how big he'd get. Hence the upgrades so far, and finding another home for the other one I had. I knew I could never afford to house 2 in a reasonable amount of time. It's all good that you're 17 and so responsible. Good on you. But while finances were good for a while here, my 3 kids came first when the finances went downhill. Remember that financial crisis around the globe? And it had nothing to do with spending habits. Now, instead of coming out like an arrogant dbag, maybe a nicer approach would have kept this from totally derailing a pretty cool thread. And I've been on this forum for a while, probably longer than you have. I've had a lot of conversation with people on here about set up, filtration, affordable options etc. So to say everyone on here would speak to me the way you did, is false. Fyi, I did check on here to find my other fish a home, and no one wanted him. Instead of jumping to conclusions, ask some questions. It will keep you from coming off as a dbag.

And why would you say it's not two inches too small? That's about it. He's able to lay against the side of the tank with just the tip of his tail curled slightly, just under 2 inches. So as far as that goes, you're wrong.

I'm not being an "arrogant dbag" as you call it. Simply making a statement. Especially at the fact that a post or two ago, you said the fish is fine. I said it's not which is something anyone on this forum would agree too. Lol, what does length of time on the forum have to do with anything?
Why buy another one if you already knew how big they got (based on the first one)?
When you comment on threads such as this one which are about showcasing large specimens kept in appropriate conditions and it turns out you don't have appropriate conditions, what did you think people would say? My apologies if you believe I'm trying to be a dbag as that's genuinely not my intention but at the end of the day, it's not like you've got an ad up now and are trying to rehome him. I know it's not a easy task but to do it, you tend to need to have constant advertisement to gather attention.

You want solutions? Try intex pools. Ebay has some for £80 - £100 @ 8-10ft size so give them a go. Could use diy filtration.

Uhh no I'm not wrong... general consensus is that the fish shouldn't be able to touch the sides of the tank at full stretch. Anyone here will say the same. In fact I believe, the usual recommended size is the length of the tank should be 4x the length of the fish and the width should be 2x the length of the fish

Not saying you were wrong about the fish being too large, just the measurements. As of right now the fish is healthy and has been for a few years. I got both fish together. I'm assuming since you listed the price in pounds this pool is across the pond from me. I'm in Florida, usa.

How are you not a noob, if your responses are like this? If you were not a noob, you would know exactly what is wrong.

Put an ad on Craigslist (local) and ask somebody who can adequately house the fish, to give it a good home - get some money for it if you want - it's a beautiful fish - but, don't be blinded by your assumptions that you know what you are doing; you don't.

You can make a pond out of some pine boards and plastic sheeting, for about $40, which is way less than an aquarium in fact - and you can designate your own width and length.

Please start a new thread if you actually are serious about caring for your fish, and we can help you - let's stay on track here.
