Never heard of anyone covering the inside of the lids but yeah the thought has crossed my mind before hehe. Then again too much trouble for too many tanks. What some do is to lower the water level so there is ample space in between. This however can only be done if the aros are young, tall tank etc. No worries Liz. :)

Cheers to you Cheos, You sure have enough Arows to worry about.. and they are some great Arows too.

one last word before this thread closes.. i cannot believe no one has an old Arow.. well i sure hope i have mine a few more years down the road.. maybe with everything we have learned at least some people may end up with an Arow that hits his prime..or better yet life expentency..

its hard for u to say that, whats "prime"? full grown? whats full grown? what the book says? whats life expentency? 20-40 years? so if it lives 20 is that prime nd expentency? what if it lives 60+ years? jus take care of your fish, thats all ur fish cares about. some people jus take there large old aro's to public aquariums. there's one locally thats 3.5ft+ and im sure seaworld didn't grow it from 3". its someone's old fish and its a beauty.

At this point i do not have any clue as to what is prime or old age simply because we don't have any body that talks about them.. {other then books} so i thought if it were possible to have someone who would like to share about him we would learn alot from it.. unfortunatly looks like we are all in the same time frame with the Arows give or take a few years..

yeah thats pretty much it. freak accidents happen way to often. its hard to keep 1 fish for 10+ years for lots of people. i was only 12 years old when i had my first aro and i managed to keep it alive for 4+ years. if i knew as much as i do now, back in 95. i promise u my aro would be in some decent prime. all i can do now, is keep what i have for as long as i can manage. i think the only way anyone will be able to keep an aro for a long ass time is to either 1, have a tank more then big enouh you'd never have to upgrade or 2, build a nice size heated pond. which is what im doing in january. all my monsters will reside in this pond for life and all i can do is sit n watch with a smile on my face every morning that i go outside to feed them and enjoy there presence in my life.

A family friend of mine has a oldest one I've seen on this thread so far, roughly 8+ years old. Very large golden xback. I will post pictures soon.

looking forward to seeing the pictures and also would like to hear all about him. Thanks

These pictures was taken 2 years ago, when he was about 6 years old, he looks the same to this day. The owner bought him when he was a size of a middle finger. He lives in a 300gallon tank all by himself.
