Any of you MFK'ers have/had them? Hows their temper? Tank mates? I heard these guys are rare and I really want one. There is one at my lfs and I am debating if I should get it or not.

The current valid scientific name is actually Hemibagrus wyckii
not trying to be a smarta$$, just informative;)

They look awesome IMO. They also have them for sale on aquascapeonline.com in case someone picks up the one at your LFS, of course you'd have to pay for shipping too with buying online.

Thanks for the correction :). I got that from another fish website. They do look awesome thats why I want one. The one at my lfs is about 4-5 inches.

don't think it has a nasty reputation like its cousin the ARTC.
You have to be joking!!
H.wyckii is one of the most aggressive catfishes on the planet, they should be kept solitary imo.
Beautiful fish all the same, well worthy of a tank all by itself.
Good luck with your quest Studd.

Will my perruno cat be okay with a crystal eye? :)

Definitely not!
These cats should not be under estimated, they will even attack their owners with real ferocity, use inline heaters or situate them in a sump, many a heater has been broken by these cats.Basic aquascaping is whats needed, any rocks that are moveable will end up slammed into the glass, drift wood is a better option. These cats originate from Sumatra\Borneo and attain a size of 30".
David Sands once described this fish in one of his books (CATFISHES OF THE WORLD) as the only freshwater fish truly unafraid of man....he was right!
Stunning but pure evil!
