just had the same issue with my arowana
i suggest bathing him in metro as it worked for me :D

Goof stuff right? But, I tried that. :( I've had it work before, and nothing this time... I've tried metronidazole, praziquantel, and a combo of metro and Epsom salts as recommended by Oddball (btw has worked fantastically in the past). This is my last resort that I can tell.

maybe it's not internal parasites?

Ive considered that, and that scares me. I'm worried that if it's not internal parasites, he's blocked.

Edit: I should mention he looks pristine, and there are no strange behaviors except not eating. He's still mister friendly. I have sat and stared at him over and over again looking for something... :(

Give us some info on the fish..

What kind of fish is it?
How old?
How long have you had the fish?
What else is housed with him?

he is poop white?
if he isnt eating did he eat something to big and cant get it through?

This is a RTCxTSN. He was 3" August '08 when we got him. He is now 26.5". He's never been sick before. He lives in a 600 gallon with several other cats. I introduced an ID shark in about 3 weeks before he stopped eating which is why I suspected internal parasites. I treated the whole tank and everyone seemed fantastic. I did introduce two pbass that I was given. One does have a crooked spine and is being euthanized as he was a disaster from day one. I was told his spine was crooked due to an injury and that he had been beat up due to a rival pair. He has never recovered. I had never suspectEd fish tb since all the other fish were just fine. The hybrid pretty much a crippled fish that's been getting his butt kicked for months. He now is in a 110 gallon round watering trough for treatment. The rest if the fish are doing awesome.

The RTCxTSN is not fed live except earthworms on occassion. He lives on a mix of hikari pellets, tilapia and shrimp.

I still suspect the ID shark gave him an internal parasite. Metro doesn't work great on
freshwater fish as their body constantly pumps water out. I'm hoping he needed a strong dose of medication internally. All the other fish were will to eat medicated food.

No white poop. No poop actually. He has had soft stools for a long time though. Many of my cats have land cat sized poops, but his was always more liquidy. He also is the only one to munch on tilapia frequently. The others don't eat it so much.

There is nothing in the tank he can eat. I've had them eat random crap like plastic before, and he always puked it up. I'm really neurotic about anything in the tank they might eat as I don't want them hurt and I really don't want them puking either. He was on gravel for a while, but has been on sand since Nov. '09.

Meant to say that differently. The pbass is the one that was injured and deformed. The hyrbid (rtcxtsn) is in the trough.

clove oil will do the trick

Thank you.

What I'm going to stuff down there is a medication that is a combination of metronidazole and a couple other things. I've used it on food for my discus and been really happy with the results. Fingers crossed for him.
