That last pic seems too straight to be a four legged animal

Edit: not to mention the drag between the holes seems odd too.

Maybe something was being dragged.
 
I didn't think of coyote!

With the "stance" being very narrow, it was almost a dead give-away for being a wolf. Dog's stance got wider as they became more domesticated (no need to hide numbers, so walk however is most comfortable!). The drag marks are typical of the muzzle buried in the snow while sniffing a trail (or a mouse under the snow).

I am not familiar with coyote habits, but it makes sense. And since they're in your area...as ballin said "mystery solved" :)
 
There ain't no Wolves in New York. The only place on the East Coast where you can find Wolves is in South Carolina :(

Yeah, as a NY'er I can definitely vouch for the coyote-ness of them.

i heard a pack clear as day in northern NH a few months ago. and Ive seen the track casts to back the calls up
