A couple tips:
Carry water
Attach a good light to your bike
Carry a fixed blade knife(my lions tend to attack bikers, happens every year, supposedly really painful).

I used to ride a massive mongoose man bike, was really heavy but since it was for exercise it was perfect.

You can prob get a decent used bike for about 50 bucks, just check tires, check and oil chain (prevents rust) and make sure steering handles and front tire alignment work as well as breaks

Thanks viper. No one brings first aid? S Steve_C Are you still vulnerable to flats with those Kevlar tires and tubes?

Geez...I haven't even owned a bike since the early 80's(around the time I started driving). My daughter has some bikes and now my wife got some(but she doesn't know how to ride).

I think best is to see what type of trails you have around you and find a bike suitable to the type of trail...

If possible, see if you could even borrow a bike from friends and go try out the trails as well before gettinf your own bike...

Having an idea of the riding style you want to do will dictate what bike is best for you... cross country / downhill / city riding etc...

Are you doing very technical trails where just front shocks and a hard tail woild be enough? or very wide open fast bumpy trails where dual suspension might make for a comfier ride...

Lots of things to think about first to get the most enjoyment out of it, coz if you do get into it, sometimes it worth getting a mid range bike just so it lasts...

The cleaner it is, the more reason to get it dirty lol...
