They are fairly slow for a large catfish although having said that a 6" tig will top 12" before you know it but i think once they get over 14-16" they slow right down, i am yet to see one larger than 24".
You should deff get one if you have a 6x2x2+ or will beable to get a 6x2x2 for when it gets large.
I would get a 10"+ one if i were you they are sensitive fish and much more so when small (less than 10-12").

Thats impressive. I havnt had mine that long, i really want to get it to 30"!
