Maybe in the wild, I brought 3 last weekend and now I only have one and the other is being treated but might die anyway. They were both attacked and on was bitten on the head and killed him, the other one had his tail completly bitten off. I think you need a thousand gallon or something to have multple Gold's. They are very aggressive towards eachother:(

Oh great, did you buy the ones from George at SharkAquarium? I ordered two which came yesterday and have been showing some aggression towards each other today. One is slightly bigger and he will randomly search for the other one and chase it around the thank often making the smaller one slam into the glass. So far neither have bitten eachother, but I have a feeling this chasing will only get worse :(. How big were the ones that you had caribe? And how long before they killed eachother?

You are aware that 2 or 3 is not a shoal per se, right?!

And we're talking about Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus?!

Yes, that's what I am talking about. Yea I am aware of that, just wondering what caribemob's experience was like with these before they killed eachother. I have heard very mixed reviews on keeping these with eachother. I know many people who have kept these fish together successfully for years and many that say they will kill each other if you try. I don't know of anyone that has kept more than 3 together at once but I can only imagine that it would spread out the aggression rather than one fish getting it all. I just decided to get a pair.

That's exactly what I was getting at. I've observed the same behaviour with a lot of supposedly shoaling characins (Chalceus, Hujeta, etc. and even the small ones like Hyphessobrycon sp.)

They don't seem to do too well in really small groups.

you might need 6-8 to shoal , not sure gold wolf shoal thou

are you really having goldies?

That was my thought as well when I was asking for the scientific name.

If it's Erythrinus erythrinus, it's a whole different story...
