Who said UV do nothing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You know, I have never nor will I ever attack you as a ray keeper. I have much more respect for people then that.

This hobby is full of useless nonsense. How are we supposed to know the truley right answers to anything if people run around saying this is "better" then that when there is NO hard proof (numbers) that can be compared.

I never claimed to know squat about UV. I never even believed in it till I talked to people that do seem to know. I started asking questions and ignoring all the this is better then that BS. When the people I talked to couldn't answer my questions I contacted the manufacturer that could. The guy I talk to is very knowledgable and explains things to me. Does this make me an expert? Nope. But I did enough research to know there's many misconceptions about it. I simply sought out the answers to my questions without leading people into thinking my opinion is fact.

If you think you are a better ray keeper then me that's fine. You must be, your rays breed and you've never killed any rays. But if you think that means you can turn your opinion into fact then you are not worth the time to even talk to. If it makes you feel better to run me into the ground cause my track record with rays isn't as good as yours that's fine too. Shows everyone on here what kind of person you are.

This isn't about what UV is best, it's about getting answers to understand the things we don't. You may know everything you need to know since you've been doing this so long, but I still consider myself very new to the hobby and I will remain in the hobby for a long time cause in 5 years I haven't even come close to beginning to understand, and even 20 years down the road I will still not consider myself an expert nor will I ever quit learning about better ways to take care of my animals.

You might think I'm trying to prove I'm smarter or more knowledgable then you but in reality you couldn't be further from the truth, like I said I'm a newbie that can't breed rays and I'm lucky to go a year without losing any, I have no problem admitting I'm far from an expert and have a lot to learn, but when it comes to things I don't understand I bust my butt to try to learn. Always have and always will.

My point in all this is it's foolish to be so narrowminded that you can honestly pass judgement on something as being a waste of money. All I was implying is how do you know it's NOT worth the money? Thechnology is moving fast these days. What worked 20 years ago may still work, but I gaurentee there's people out there earning a living building things better then they used to. Those people strive to make past products obsolete.

I wouldn't wait for a phone call from me, as after your last few remarks I have absolutely nothing to discuss with you.

Never once stated I'm a better ray keeper than anyone what I do works so no matter what numbers some smart guy throws out means nothing to me

The proof is in the doing not what it says on paper

Like I said over and over again UV is all about flow rate nothing more yes if I had more light and slower flow rate the kill time maybe faster but even at a slower rate you will get the same results but it might take twice as long

You say you know nothing about UV but you then claimed you need to spend thousands on a set up

If you know nothing it's best not to get involved that's why you only ever see me posting in the threads I'm interested in

You wanted proof a budget system (in your eyes) can work well I have shown you that

When you go for a job it's experience they want more than anything
A man who has been doing the same job for 20+ years is more valuable than a kid just out of school who has never picked up a tool or been on site in his life

I sent you my number as you said you was going to call me like some kind of threat

I want one. I've been suggested the 57 watt Aqua brand with wiper. I have a 600 gal tank with uber filtration. Was thinking about installing this on one of my return pumps from my sump. The pumps are mag 24s ( 2400 gph minus head loss). Y'all think this will be sufficient for my system?? Hard to believe I'm about to buy two of these bad boys at nearly $1k!!!! For my 2 big tanks!

uvs are great for clearing water as they make the detritus "clump" together so the filters can remove it. koi keepers use them loads for clear water but the koi would be fine without them im sure.

you have a drip on your tank t1 did you turn off the drip when you turned on the filter or keep it running, if so how much does the drip change each day ?

tbh t1 im suprised the uv bulbs were even working after three years let alone working to a reasonable standard ! you might want to check the life span of the bulbs you have replaced them with so you know when to change them next.

p.s. just because the bulb emits light doesnt mean is working efficiently........ ( /me remembers to go turn off the uv filters in the pond been meaning to do it from the end of summer so thanks for the reminder :) )

NO dont be silly i change the uv bulbs every 6 months

i turned the drip off for 2 days so the uv only had to treat the tank water no additinal water

its back to normal now the drip puts 200 gal per day in so about 15% of the tank vol

Could uou guys please cool the discussion ( referring to T1 and Dbjunkie ):)

would be nice to see your tank in person t1 . normally i wouldnt think uv were necessary on a tank but with the width of yours being so big i think it would allways look dirty if you didnt have it.
good to hear you change the bulbs regular too :)

bet its better in person than it is in the pics. how about you fetch it up here for a few hours so i can see for myself :D
