Who thinks this will work

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with DB, the armatus is gonna likely outgrow and make a snack of some of the fish mentioned, and cudas aren't gonna be able to hold their own imo or grow fast enough. The bichirs growth can vary so be careful with them outgrowing the atf to much and making a snack of him. The tats and mala should be fine. If you add odoes and you wanna do a group I say do atleast 3, DB knows more about them in a group then I do. But seeing mine alone in my 120 I wouldn't try a group in anything less than a standard 240 personally..

Odoe appreciate a good footprint. They don't really use much more then like the top 6" of water so wide helps. The more you have the more comfy and less timid they seem to be. I currently have 6 in my 300 with Aros, Wolves, Tigers and a few rays. My issue with this tank is the Wolves grow too fast, in turn the Odoe or wolves will need moved. Likely the Odoe as they're getting to the point of slowing down while the Tigers (Vatf and Tatf) are still growing.

I experienced a fast growth rate with mine up until about 8 inches then it slowed slightly till 10 and it slowed more and she began to grow in girth and has gained nice colorations I've seen on others finally, such as the green sheen and a bit of a pattern on the fins.

I wouldn't do just one..... They find comfort in numbers..... Since they're timid I'd want more of them then any other fish in the tank.

so you think i should ideally have
3 tats
1 fatf
1 mala
5-6 odoe
1 ornate

also, would it hurt to add them 1 at a time? or is it better all at once? and would a school be more apt to harass my fatf?

The ornate likely won't grow fast enough and become somones lunch. This assumes you get the usual 3-4" one at an LFS. I would go with a WC endli. He won't eat anyone that isn't snoozing on the bottom. I say WC because CB tend to have spine issues.

Odoe aren't going to harass anything unless it's small enough to eat......

I'd add all at once. I'd also scratch the Mala and get a real wolf. Nobody likes driftwood they have to feed.

Why only 1 Fatf? A group should be less likely to catch shanks from the Tats then just a single fish.....

Iv always had personable wolves reds purples malas and although the curu is definitely the most active I can't shell out for another. and putting 7" fish with a 14" curu is bad news bears. Also only did 1 faft BC that's all that was available. But they have been together probably 6 months or so now without any scuffs. I'll see how many odoe I can find around 6". With the ornate I know I can't add him at 4" I probably won't add one until I can get one around 7-8"
