What about polyfilter - what do you guys think? I use it on both of my tanks. If you do use it, how often do you replace it? I usually just rise it weekly and use it for a couple of months.

I stopped using the polyfill and started using quilt batting for all of my mechanical filtration (minus canisters, I used sponge in canisters).

That said, I don't use carbon in any of my tanks and the water is crystal clear.I've got pix to prove it :D lol

Why quilt batting? Do you replace it often or rinse it and reuse a lot?

I use quilt batting because it comes in sheets and holds together better than the loose fill. It's so cheap I just replace it about once a month.

for any particular reason?

I always seem to have my hands in the tanks. Feeding the plecos, moving things around during cleaning etc. Even though I rinse my arms very well, I like having it in there for a peace of mind.

Never had any problems from using it in the 12 years I've been fish keeping, so why stop now?

No reason to stop:grinno:

I just can't think of a reason to start:D

The only reason I can think of using it is if I cant see down the length of my tank, peering through one of the side panes.
