Man that Jag would destroy that Bichir if it really kicked off!

Everybody on these two threads keeps on about the teeth and jaws of the Bichir....

Just take a look at the Teeth and jaw on a Jag and you will understand, they are very powerfull but its not all about the jaws you need power.

Jags are much bigger so yeh go Jag!

Isn't this basically virtual fish fighting thats going on in here? Next thing you know you all will be taking bets. Tisk Tisk :(

Thanks for honoring my request for the Trimac X Snook pics. They look even better than the last time! Let me know when you have some extra just lying around in need of a home.

no not at all. i just thought it was pretty crazy that my ornate even attempted to make a move at my jag but i know nothing is going to come of it. just thought it would make a decent topic to bs about.

My old male rtm tried to eat a sen the same length as it, it was too big but ate its head. As long as the jag can fit it in its mouth the pharyngeal teeth will tear right through the armor.

I have read that Ornates can grow to 30 inches. I don't see a two foot long Jaguar Cichlid wanting to fight the much larger Bichir.

yes ive read that to but i believe the largest ive seen in captivity at least on this site was llike 18-19 inches. maybe someone has a bigger one i just never seen it:)

I have never seen one in person larger than 23" so dunno...

But theres a guy on your origonal thread who likes Bichirs a whole lot,
hes like there representative or something lol

In my experience polypterus will do anythinf for a quite life and are very mild tempered fish. An angry jag will easily beat up your average ornate. But i guess if the ornate is a paricularly aggressive one it could turn the tables, but i think this would be incredibly unlikely.
As ever its all down to the individual fish.
