I would have to disagree. If a larger vieja is added i dont see a problem. They can hold their own quite well from my experience. Conflicting info yes but its different experiences that need to be shared.

As my esteemed and much learned colleague states, it truly is a matter of experimentation. I personnally find Viejas go badly with everything ( i know it is me ) and find that, barring some more fragile amphis, such as Lyonsis, a awesome comm is a an amphi comm.

But it is just that. An opinion.

yeah I like to hear all the differing opinions....it gives me a more rounded overall idea, to be honest....if I could readily find some male midas I would happily add a few to the mix....they just really are a fish that pops up on the rare occasion where I live....3 or 4 midas/devils, the butti, the texas and the jag would be a very good mix for me if it works!....I do want a synspillum (spelling) but they are not cheap....and would be gutted to get one just to be beaten on constantly, I will keep on racking my brains as to what else may be suitable, sadly here in the UK there are very few places (local to me at least) that sell the large aggressive cichlids....its all about the peaceful community standard tropicals mostly.

You have dealers in the uk who allways have midas, and barred ones and amarillos and isletas, at that...
They ship to you...

I do, but they give no guarrantees on sex (unless they have adults)....and also I like to see the fish in person, their living conditions...their health and so on, I have been stung badly in the past with getting reptiles via courier without seeing them....and really don`t want to go through that hassle again.

And are they that far away from you that you can't deive there a saturday morning?

the one nearest to me is around a 2.5+ hour drive....plus the fact I do not drive doesn`t really help lol.....my other half drives, but there is no way on earth she would drive me that distance for fish, sadly she doesn`t share my passion at all....she likes the odd pretty fish, but thats about it...I also have the same problem with the reptiles, luckily though I have a good network of friends with those throughout the UK, so I can usually get a trusted friend to check out anything I buy first, the one time I didn`t do this was when I got stung...an albino burmese python, looked fab in the pics...the seller had a decent reputation, but when the snake arrived it was riddled in mites and had a full on respiratory infection :(

i have the same problem where i live, none of the shops where i live keep any midas and not many keep CA americans ,usually if there are any they have fish that people have handed in.

yeah its a real pain eh!! have you ever ordered any via websites? would you give recommendations?...I may be willing to take a risk if I have at least some opinion from a customer....I keep looking at the midas on addball express`s website and am very tempted, but they are not exactly cheap, and would want to order at least two and would imagine delivery would be at least another £15 on top...
