  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow! How long did that combo last? Is that a really small carapo or a HUGE african knife?

One more question that I don't know if it is fact or fiction. Will having more than one Knife in a tank mess up they're electrical organ sensing? I've heard a few times that they will not be happy if there is another "electric" fish in there.

I don't think african brown knives are electric fish. Neither are clowns and the other various asian knives. For electric knives you're really only looking at the BGK and other south american Gymnotiforms (not counting the mormyrids).

I've got an ABK, a BGK, and a CK in the same tank. They do fine together, the ABK patrols the tank all day, the other two check things out but don't fight one another; sometimes a sev will try messing with the BGK--he puts it right in it's place.

How come some ABKs are darker than others? Genetics? Age? I would really like to get a dark one, but if they start off light and then turn darker with age, I have no worries... Anyone got an answer?

I've read that they can be brown or black (maybe a dark brown). All I've seen in the shops, though, is the brown variant.

Nice ABK's everyone.
I might be getting 3x ABK's and 3x african butterfly's for my 35...

We call him Flash cause that's all you ever see of him is a brief flash.

it has the body shape of a black ghost but its brown has no white stripe on the end of the tail and has a tanish white stripe down the back.

My African is out a lot. Seems like it's a curious little fella. I read some where that ABK for loose shoal out in the wild, so keep multiple ABK would be safe. They are the more manageable Knife out of the more commonly available Knife species when it comes to size.

the african BLACK knife is out all the time if I put my hand in you usually comes and swims around my hand.
the african BROWN Knife the one I put pictures of hides during the day
and is out at night sometimes he'll pop out and say hey.
but he's also a relatively new addition.. got him I guess 5 days ago.

That's a Brown Ghost Knife (Apteronotus leptorhynchus). It's from South America. The African Brown Knife color ranges from grey to brown. I think it's due to it's surroundings.
