Buttikoferi without a doubt. I've had butti's with so many different species of cichlids. They are always trying to become the dominant fish of the tank, or they persistently pick on the current dominant fish into submission. They have quite the advantage during a battle, my old butti would smash his opponent into ornaments, rocks, and the glass. Lucky for me, I didn't have sharp objects in the aquarium.

My butti dominated every single species of CA cichlid except a grammodes, until he outgrew him. The grammodes was smart, always kept distance from the butti. Only taking quick strikes, that was the butti's disadvantage.

I love when buttikoferi are the alpha in a tank, they never go out killing or hurting when they're up top. A slight chase here and there and that's it, unlike dovii's and red devils that are always looking for trouble.

Mine is over 20 years old and around 15". I was at Sea World San Diego last summer and they have some very large buttis well over 2 feet in length in one of their freshwater tanks.

Wow, if they are a genuine 2ft+ we are talking about a fish thats weight would be way more than a full grown dovii right? They're much taller bodied!?

Mine is only 12 atm but eating everything and still growing strong!

Believe it or not... Butti's were raised for fish fighting where the owners and others would place wagers on the winner. I saw this in Hong Kong in the late 80's. Most of the fish being fought were around 9-14 inches. They would place same sized fish in a tank with a divider (kind of like betta fighting) and the betting would start. The 'fights' would last until one of the two fish runs away or is killed. These fights would last anywhere from 5 mins to 30 mins. I also witnessed Soft shelled turtles being 'fought' at the same place. Soft shelled turtle fights were much more brutal.
