there is no shark in this forum that big enough to beat those Arapaima !

Do some research... Arapaima rarely exceed 8 feet... I believe the biggest "world record" wild fish is 14 feet? I dont think John's arapaima are near that size (I have a ton if respect for him and he's a great guy with unbelievable dedication to the hobby, but that's not what this is about...).

There are several species of "commonly" kept sharks that reach that size, and some species are available that might exceed what a captive arapaima could grow to.

Lemon shark over 10 feet, zebra sharks up to 12, nurse sharks up to 14 feet...

I'm not that familiar with the shark keepers here on MFK but I know there are several with huge setups and keep big species, so I wouldn't scoff at the idea someone has some huge monsters in some crazy SW pool.

Hell no that aint the biggest. Animal planet needs to do some better research. Don't get me wrong, Johns tank is a beast. But arapaimag's tank is 5 times larger than his!!! Hell even arapaimag's "small tank" is 5,000 gallons bigger than Johns.

Are you sure Arapaimag's aquarium is inside his home? The top of the Animal Planet page says largest home aquarium.

Yes it is. He built an addition on to his house for it. Check out his thread. I would call that home aquaria without a doubt. Animal planet doesn't always have their facts straight. Might be because arapaimag is in Canada, but I'm just guessing at that.

I was just guessing at that too. I remember seeing the pics of the trackhoe digging out an area for one of the tanks beside the house, but wasn't sure if that was actually his home or not.

It is attached to his house and he can access it just like any other room. The thing that throws you off is that he had to build the house around the tank. LOL

But, I consider home aquaria anything that isn't owned by some type of company, museum or public aquarium. i.e. a hobbyist that just has a big tank.
