The longest living fish in my tank is not cichlid, but three clown loaches. I have them for over 8 years, still growing and showing no sign of aging. I read that they don't even reach sexual maturity until they are 10+ years old and a foot long. Mine are between 6 to 7 inches, so still a long way to go.

Most cichlids have life expectancy under 7 years. For long live fish, try Koi and Arrowana which can live for 100 years.

8yrs is a long time! Any pictures?

I had a blue gourami for three years once in a 10 gallon, eventually died of hole in the head. Not very impressive but I was pretty proud!

I had a Labiatum Red Devil that lived to be 16 years old that reached 12 inches long.... a beast of a fish.

The older fish I had was a pleco my dad had got when I was 2 yrs. It was in the 20"+ range. It died about a year ago so the makes it about 18 yrs old. Ill ask him to see if he has any pics of it
