How about we leave it alone. Just leave it as is. No contracts no permirs nothing. Anyone suggesting permits need to do some research.....

I agree. It seems that the only attention our hobby gets is negative attention. This article is negative attention. It makes us, as a whole, look incompetent. The only way ANYONE is going to do ANYTHING about this is is an HR669 type-across the board- ban of everything. Only endangered species will get singled out. The politicians (the ones responsible for these decisions) don't care about "well, this species is ok, but this one gets big, this one is aggressive, bla bla bla". All they care about is solving the problem as simply and quickly as possible, which is bad news for us. In a perfect world, people would care to listen. In actuality, a few loud mouths are going to make us all lose recess.

IMO, when anyone buys stock that will get to 6" or larger, or stock that can injure a person during normal cleaning of the aquarium, there should be a 'simple' contract between buyer and seller stating : the average size the fish is expected to grow to, the tank size needed, and if the fish is considered dangerous to it's keeper while the person is performing normal tank keeping. And the buyer should have to sign a portion that states he/she understands and agrees to treat this pet 'humanely,' and that they are soley responsible for the health and well being of the pet. ----other stuff too, but that would be a good start.:D

Why? is someone going to shell out the money to take them to court if they don't follow the contract? the key is education on everyone's part, not some legal binding contract. i say it's YOUR fault if you don't research whatever it is you're buying. you would never go to a car dealership and take the first car some tom, dick or jane offered you or one that's just visually pleasing without a lil research...why do some of us do it with fish?

Well said... Blame the cause.. the ignorant idiots who buy piranha's because "It'll rip everything apart! awesome!"... or the People who insist on shoveing goldfish in bowls. Or any other myride of cruel things seen in the hobby. Some of the sweetest, most well behaved Dogs I've known in my life fall into the breeds banned in many places. Blameing the other Animals is probably the singular most stupid thing humans do...

The Only Animal to Blame is Humans ourselves.

YOU said it was a 4 foot tank when you said it was a 90 gallon. the dimensions of a 90 gallon are [FONT=Arial, Arial, Helvetica]48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 25 3/8. What you just described isn't a common size sold in shops or ordered online and it'd come out to 150 gallons....even in uk size it comes out to 125 gallons, care to explain?

my bad, the tank is 5ft by 2ft by 18inches, i didnt say the tank was 4ft you were in that big a hurry to get the bollocking in you assumed it was 4ft. But then no other truth exists outside the american viewpoint eh, i live in ireland so how the hell im i supposed to know what size and shape they sell tanks in your part of the world.

i didn't say anything about your tank size but pointed out you told us you have a 90 gallon tank which is 4 foot. Seems silly to say something, get mad at people for pointing out facts concerning the size you listed, retract it and still vent?

i don't think fish tank dimensions vary all that much all around the world unless you're buying custom tanks. The metric used may vary but not the actual size

thats just my point, in your mind you hear 90 gallon and think 4ft why? is there fish keeping commandment i missed which cover this type of thing, lol, thou shall not say 90 gallon if refering to a 5ft tank.

thou shall not say 90 gallon if it's really 150......

come on guy, you're joking right? i buy fish tanks sometimes, people are often wrong about their fish tank size so i ask them their dimensions and then i can calculate the gallons if it's a custom tank or tell which size it really is if it's a standard tank. this argument is mute, you were wrong, you've since corrected it, we can move on?
