I run 2 emp 400's and i love them but i know ppl that are going out and spending hundreds on fx5's and other canisters. I feel like they are just a money pit

My buddy wants to get an fx5 for his 125 and ive been looking over all the stuff and feel like it cost more for media and stuff. I just dont see the reason to spend that much money on a filter

Right now i have 2 emp 400's on my 75 and they will go on my 150 when i set it up but i will add 1 of 2 emp 400 i got with the tank for more filtration. Is it more cost efficient to run 1 canister filter or 3 emp 400's

thats because you never used one before

I've never used one before, but I don't like the idea of letting my bio-media get clogged with gunk. At least with a sump I can make sure the mechanical media catches all the gunk, and I can just swap it out when it gets particularly gnarly.

You will have difficultie with room on the back with 3 emperors. I have run my 100 and my 135(when I had it) with 2 emperor 400s and one eheim canister with good results. One complaint I have is that the emperor tends to be noisy(water fall and some impeller noise)
