WHY ARE CANISTER FILTERS SO GREAT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a Marineland magnum 250 and a 350,I like both, except the 350 is more of a pain, but I give it credit for polishing my water really good.250 is for sure good on a 55 gallon with a emperor 350 or 400.

i think $300 or more is alot. I like the fluval 405, and the marineland c530 canisters

You can get an FX5 for about $250 shipped. 600 gph, 6L of bio and tons of mech. And it's quieter than an Emperor. I run 2 emperors on my 60 and it's a bit noisy, but they work great for the inhabitants... fish in that tank don't like a ton of water movement, so surface return works well for that system, but that is probably the thing I like most about canisters. Flexability. You can run your return and intake literally any where you want. Hob's only let you return one place....at the top. For alot of systems water movement at the bottom is critical....

But personally I use all types of filtration. I use wet drys, hobs, canisters and I'm building a sump. Really depends on what your goal is, but I can make an argument for the advantages of all types if filtration... every kind has it's pros and cons

I'm going with a rena xp3 or a fluval 405

I have 2 xp3's and xp2 and an xp1. IMO they are great filters. The xp3's are a great filter for the money. I'll he adding 2 fx5's to my next tank just because I'll need more turnover.

Glad to see you're going to try out a canister again. I've heard bad things on the Marineland Canisters. You're best bet would be Eheim, Fluval, or Rena. I've switched all my tanks to canisters after awhile. They hold more media, silent, and less maintenance.

Im probly gonna go with the rena xp3 but im gonna keep readin up because i keep reading about how the fluvals and renas leak and have problems. Just dont want another canister filter to leak on me again when i first tried one

i love canister filters just for the ease of use.

currently only using a cheap tetra tec but will soon be getting a fuval g6 i think

Three words: Worry-free existence

Canisters are a closed system, perfectly custamizable for mech and bio, and run for a year without maintenance. No evaporation, no splashing, no leaks. No worries.
