. You almost can't kill these fish. So that makes them an awesome starter fish.
But feeder goldfish are way worse than fancy goldfish. That's why most common goldfish's life expectancy are less than few months since they do not receive any care where the fancy goldfish got better care at either LFS or home aquariums. Even stunted common/comet goldfish have same life expectancy of the fancy goldfish.Maybe true for common goldfish, but not fancy goldfish. Fancy goldfish are weak mutants, susceptible to a myriad of infectious and genetic diseases. Some have trouble maintaining balance, or seeing food. The more deformed they are, the weaker the strain and shorter the life expectancy.
That IF these feeder goldfish survived few first months with treatments for many diseases they came in with, especially the ones came from feeder tanks. What do you mean they're "worse"? They look way cooler than any "fancy" goldfish once they mature, and as tiger said, they're many times more robust.. they'll outlive just about anything.
A regular comet goldfish can live for decades...
Your telling me. I had 2 males reach full maturity...they were awesome. They had long fins with humps on their head. I was downsizing and had to get rid of them. The LFS freaked out saying they never seem them like that or that size. The were more then happy to take them. They didn't last long there and I never found out what they sold them for.Just like most folks on here won't give a chance to the convict cichlids show their true adult size. A fully mature male convict is an amazing sight.
