Why are Payara so hard to raise past 10 inches?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Many people are recommending high current, but Payara also live in lakes.
Yeah, I was just gonna point out that the background of the fishing pic posted above is a lake, not a waterfall ...

Well i am getting ready for a school of Payara! Some red fins also will be in there Hydro H.! I heard the red fins ones were more aggressive! Well we will find out soon. They are going to be about 7 inches, so i will bulk them up a little then try to create the rabids in a 240. I am thinking at 10 inches, so i was going to add more filtration every few weeks. Until i create a fast moving amazon river setup. I might even lower the water and get some powerheads pointing down! keep in touch Howie

Anybody know when to move Payara to very fast moving water! I dont want to move my school to early and tire them all out!

I think high O2 and pristine water is key. The higher current will usually come from more powerful filtration and will cause more surface agitation for oxygen exchange.

Either they were killed by wolffish or eaten up by my endlicheri :(

u should have known better then to have them in the same tank as those other guys... raise em by therself until there big then move them to there monster tank.. i have one right now in a 75 gallon .. he is 8 inches. his tankmates include a 4 inch arrowanna.. and a blue lobster and a bunch of minnows to eat.... if i can raise him to lets say 15 inches then i will move him to my monster tank.. u dont throw them in there as soon as u buy them.. jeez.....
