i do understand that they are a threat to the wild populations of native species, but.... isn't that only until winter comes and kills them off. in all the information i have gathered, most mfk's are keeping their piranha between 76 and 84 degrees. What is the lowest temperature piranha can tolerate? and where does this line occur across the united states. i know that here in va. piranha are found in the potomac every few years. but they die off every winter. this is just something i had to ask.

because of bureacratic morons

it's a state to state thing. Alot of people single out cali but there's alot of neighboring states with similar weather pattern that are on opposite ends of the spectrum (look at washington and oregon for example, legal in or, banned in wa, wa is further north, bordering canada). It's also bigger then piranhas (rays, arowanas, etc etc).

All in the local legislation and laws that were made years ago and probably never looked at again.

its strictly due to fear of them and others being considrd evil maneating fish that won't stop killing. That and lack of will to learn or care. Or even because people have released them in that area. the town next to me has a ban on them but the county is a ok to keep them in.
