Why are we still keeping fish?

^ yeah, i think most hobbies in the long run end up costing more than fish keeping... So really its about finding what best suits the individual keeper :)

Of course money is important to factor into any hobby, it set our boundaries. If you extend yourself past your boundaries, you can suffer.

You must strive to live within your boundaries and enjoy the hobby.
 
Why do people keep pets? People get out of this hobby all the time. You don't have time to devote to it cause of work school lost job. Its definitely a hobby that does take some attention and expense. Its not a hobby you can do without some cost. For me keeping a fish tank has always been part of my furniture decor..
 
I can zone out in front of my tank for long time. There's nothing like the look of crystal clear water after a water change or polished with a d.e. filter :):):). It's a hobby we love, that's why we always come back to keeping tanks. I've kept and fell in love with doviis, umbees, green terrors, etc. I just picked up a juvenile male jack dempsey last week...in love again lol!
 
I keep fish because its one of my hobby..its something i share with my kids..hope soon will be their hobby too..:)

For me its one of the cheaper hobbies I have. Im rebuilding a XC falcon and rebuilding cars is never cheap, nor is photography which is another hobby of mine. Gaming is another thing I do which, again, isn't all that cheap which just leaves aquariums and skateboarding. Once setup its only electricity, water and food for the fish and skateboarding just requires a board so that's cheap as.

As for why I keep fish, not only do I find the process of fish keeping (feeding, maintenance, setup etc) both enjoyable and relaxing I like the way the tanks look in my house and find the fish I keep interesting. I also enjoy reading and discussing about this hobby which varies so much from person to person and while automotive has the same ability to get you shunned by discussing it with others who don't enjoy it the variety in method is quite the same.
 
Really cant get bored! Most of us get something new and a few weeks are bored with it...so if you start off with a bunch of fish and get bored you can always sell them/give them away and try new fish..
 
It's something you can call your own, a piece of you and your feelings to look at and see what's inside! Therapeutic in many ways including help falling asleep, lowering B/P and helping some find their way out of a dark hole! It is a living thing (an ecosystem) you yourself have control of in a chaotic world! More over a passion to keep and breed these awesome creatures to save environments, save the viewing pleasure of future generations, and create more niches for other hobbyist! Of course the water changes and maintaining tanks is a blast too LOL!
It's also a vast group that have this same aquarium fish keeping passion that create a brother/sisterhood, a comradery if you will that is tight nit and open to helping their fellow hobbyist young or old, and a great way to meet and make awesome friendships!
