I am new here to MFK (and lovin' it!) and have begun to notice it seems like most of you guys with monster tanks have go the way of freshwater choosing large fish such as Aero's. I was just wondering why this is so. Is there a reason there aren't very many monster saltwater or reef-tanks on here?

Freshwater allows you to keep a broader range of fish, they are much cheaper, lower maintainence, can be readily found and many other reasons. With saltwater you can have great difficulty to find a 3ft saltie fish(apart from eels), unless you fish for it.
Freshwater is unlimitless in home aquaria. As if saltwater, but fresgqwater is cheaper which allows you to spend more money on a larger body of water.

Please tell me what that means......

....There are a lot of saltwater keepers/monsters to be found, here, and everywhere else...Depends on where you live. If you live by the ocean, chances are there are a lot more species available to you as far as saltwater. If you live inland, chances are you are more likely to see more native freshwater fish...

I have heard of double negatives in a sentence, but a double negative word....:headbang2It was definitely super nonuncool!

I really enjoy keeping freshwater because I do not always like the look of marine. Also like many others have said freshwater is easier and you save alot of money. I have though about keeping salt water fish but I don't want to. Also do you know where they get most of the marine fish? From the ocean. This strips apart ecosystems. I know some marine species can be breed in the aquaria, but not all can or will.

I think saltwater tanks are beautiful, and give credit to those who go through the expense of keeping them.

But my favorite kinds of fish are freshwater, so I stick with that side of the hobby.

fresh cause i can't afford salt. heck, can barely afford fresh...

I like fresh because there are more readily availbale types of fish (in my area atleast). It is more affordable and they are a bit easier to maintain. If i were into sw I'd probably want a shark and have to convert my liing room into a tank. (hey now thats an idea:nilly:)

I can and will choose to keep both however the selection of marine life here is rather appalling. I used to keep saltwater myself a few years back. I wouldn't mind however making a comeback with fish only tank but I still enjoy the way reefs look as I used to have.
