Why did the gun thread get closed?

Did I miss something seemed like a pretty civil debate. Why did it get closed? is it because a few politicians names? what ever the reason can the posts that are against rules just be deleted do the post can continue instead of it being locked?

I think it got locked cause it always gets argued here and never goes anywhere. If they don't lock the thread then all the old arguments can't get regurgitated in a new thread.
 
I'm not sure I wasn't the one who closed it but to anser your question: no, we typically don't clean up the thread and leave it open. The members who start issues tend to have an issue letting go of their point and continue the behavior. The staff has limited resources to babysit a thread (most of us are logged in during the day form our jobs). If a thread goes south it gets locked. If a thread appears to be "civil" it is likely because it has already been cleaned up by the staff.
 
It was a topic that has been brought up time and time again. Things started getting a little heated and political, so it was shut down. I'm sure here shortly it will be brought up again. Not to worry.

I pondered out loud why we even allow the threads. Unless we're talking about our collections or shooting zombies they always become political. It's quite amusing watching both sides attempt to enforce their will though

They're always the same threads, with the same members making the same arguments. We all know that neither side will budge or change their viewpoint, and that the discussion will eventually go downhill with political comments, insults, and threats. Then a few days after it gets closed a clone thread will be opened and the process starts all over again.

MFK is an international forum where most of the members live in countries where guns are illegal to own and most of the members in countries where they are legal are still against them. As said, they always end the same way. Gun threads should be banned from MFK altogether. They have nothing at all to do with fish and are only of (extreme) interest to a very few members
