Why did the gun thread get closed?

I'm not sure I wasn't the one who closed it but to anser your question: no, we typically don't clean up the thread and leave it open. The members who start issues tend to have an issue letting go of their point and continue the behavior. The staff has limited resources to babysit a thread (most of us are logged in during the day form our jobs). If a thread goes south it gets locked. If a thread appears to be "civil" it is likely because it has already been cleaned up by the staff.

^ see the above posts from members who cannot leave a debate alone and are still going on the topic. This is exactly why we close the thread instead of cleaning it.
