it needed to be closed before it was opened wing nuts crawl out of the woodwork on this type of thread .....hey wait a minute ....I resemble that remark:ROFL:

MFK is an international forum where most of the members live in countries where guns are illegal to own and most of the members in countries where they are legal are still against them. As said, they always end the same way. Gun threads should be banned from MFK altogether. They have nothing at all to do with fish and are only of (extreme) interest to a very few members
:)

While it is true that MFK is an international forum the majority of the regular posters in the lounge are U.S.citizens.I hope that gun threads are not done away with as they can be very informative and interesting when the back and forth debating is kept to a minimum.....Lounge topics don't have to have anything to do with fish.

Of course science is twisted to fit (political) agendas and to get people (sheeple) wound up.

The most common way is to attack the messenger (the scientists must be biased because their research came to a conclusion with which I don't agree).

The next is to point out some methodological imperfection in the science. No method, especially in social science, is 100% perfect. It can't be. But that the beauty of peer-reviewed literature and expert panels (like the one run by the National Academies of Science that authored the report that I linked in the thread that was closed) exposes conflicts of interest and bad science pretty consistently.

Science is self-correcting and self-improving. Nearly always. For example, the article about vaccines causing autism...was retracted from The Lancet after it was found to have serious holes in it...A big chunk of America, of course, refuses to believe science...doesn't get their kids vaccinated...and we've seen the re-emergence of diseases that were thought to have been defeated as a result.

Matt

I agree to a point but I've also seen science twisted to show a lot of stuff that isn't true.
Look at the science behind banning pythons or snakeheads our banning piranhas in colorado where they'd never survive.
The us is a violent county so any study on violence here and any weapon will look bad. I'll bet we have more unarmed assaults also. Science is only as valid as the scientist objectivity about the subject.

It could be inferred that non US Lounge'rs are turned off by the gun threads.
While the argument you use is true, the same rationale also applies to religious , political , Evolution or global warming threads, which also end similarly to the gun threads, yet those subjects are 'frowned upon' but gun threads not.
So if it is an issue of outcomes then why are gun threads still here?
Add the that , humans are an argumentative type, at best :)
This thread is a bit Pythonesque
:)

I don't know if these other members are turned off by the threads or not but the mods should have that information. It is easy enough to report or complain to any one of them.I have said enough and I don't want this to become a debate. We both have stated our stances on the gun discussion threads and that's as far as it has to go here.
