Why Did You Sell Your FX5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I own three of these bad boys and Love them I haven't had any problems with them and I do own some Eheims like a pro 2 and pro 3 If I could I would by more of them. Ebay has them for like $199.99 and like 25-35 shipped. Great deal on these I'm setting up (2) 240 gallons and plan on running at least couple of these on the new tanks there great.:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

I sold mine because I thought I was going to be selling the tank too. The tank never sold and now I regret selling the fx5.

always sell the tank before the equipment, in case you change you mind or back out....that sucks man.

I had 3. Downsized a little. I thought they were costing Me a lot to operate. I was wrong. Wish I still had the 2 I got rid off!
they only draw like what 50 watts ? how could you think they cost alot to run when your heaters usualy draw 6x that. (600 watts of heater for this sized tank assuming they only are on half the day)

i have 3 .. work great .. and anyone who tells you that the eheims have more space in the buckets fail because if they want to have mech filtration in there filters they have to use that space .. so there is less space in the 2028's because the Fx5 has mech filters stock ...

i use stock pads and 3 baskets of bio glass .. best bio filtration on the market .. and that is what you really need to keep the water clean .. not water changes polishing pads and carbon ...

I have one FX5, two 2260, two 2228, two 404, and one 205. I have no complaints about "ANY" of them. Comparing the FX5 to the 2260? The FX5 doesn't hold anywhere near as much media, but, it is much easier to perform maintenance on. I clean my 2260 (about) every four to six months. I would clean them more often, but, it is truly an ordeal to do so. The FX5? I could clean this every month, if I had to, without too much complaint. I have even cleaned it on a weekday before (i.e. when I had to go to work the next morning). I wouldn't even dream about doing that with a 2260. I wouldn't trade my FX5 for anything (or any of my other filters - to be honest)!!! Each "different" kind of filter that I have, I have for a different purpose. The two 2260s mean that I don't worry about biological - EVER. The FX5 gives me additional biological and, in "my" case, better mechanical filtration. Coupled with the fact that it is so easy to clean, I clean it more often and get the "crap" out of it more frequently than I do the 2260s. I am absolutely puzzled when I see complaints about the FX5.

What is better for "your" setup? A 2260 that you are unwilling to clean more than twice a year, or, an FX5 that you are willing to clean every month -- if need be??? We probably all have a different answer to this question. I think the 2260 is the "better" of the two filters, but, I also think some of that value is negated because I just no longer have the "will" to clean it as frequently as I do the FX5. Ten years ago? Sure!!! But now? Help me Lord.

i love my fx5,and plan on getting more(they are 250 at my lfs)the only thing i think that makes them better is changing the hose to the clear vinyln hose, which i did,not sure if it changed the flow rate, but it sure made the hoses easier to clean.best money i ever spent on a canister filter.

I wouldn't buy one cuz the filter would require a wide door to wedge into a stand. Otherwise you'll have to stick the filter in from the back of the stand. Another thing is the fx5 is a back breaker if you ever need to lug it into the yard to do cleaning.
