Why Did You Start Keeping Crenicichla?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I felt that my 125 was needing more fish. The first fish I put in the 125 was my Argentea. I kinda built the tank around this guy (my wife saw the Argentea at an LFS, and she loved it so much that she let me get a 125). It is a general rule of thumb that cichlids are less aggressive towards cichlids that look different. Because my Argentea looks quite different from pikes, I got a pike. I bought one as Strigata, but soon discovered it is Venezuela. I never payed attention to the Crenicichla forum until I got my Ven. It was not until then that I realized that Crenicichla were such cool fish, and there are so many more species of Crenicichla that I would love to own someday.

When I was working at Petsmart and saw them the day they came in. I was amazed at how different they were and never heard of them before and I knew I had to eventually have one. Then I got on here read up on them and realized how SICK they are.:headbang2Know I'm hooked and love my BC. Can't wait to get more.

heard they were a colorful less aggressive fish plus they just look cool when i got one i found they have great personalitys and eat a ton

My first one was a feeder that survived my tank...lol

You are a gimp...lol. Seriously though, why DID you get some pikes? I never expected you to get some really....lol.

saw a bellycrawler in the lfs, picked it up and between that and peanut i enjoyed pikes, picked up a sveni and once i get my larger tank i'm going to probably get something a little larger in size, probably a common one still like an X1

saw a species of pike in a book about 15 years ago. i had to have one. i searched a few lfs's and found one. don't remember the species. it was mostly white with an ocellaris on its tail.i have had some sort a pike since.

I had one when I was a kid ;ike 25 years ago and it was the first fish that I actually went looking for when I got back into the hobby 2 years ago.....
