why do my piranhas go to top of tank

ok today my p's started going to the top of the tank and like sitting there, like the are getting air or something

not enough oxygen in the water so they swim up to surface for air. do you have any air stone? or using filter outlet/power head to break water surface for gas exchange? water parameter, temperature, tanks size and how many p's? what size are the ps?

To add to that, tanks can get warmer during the summer, depending on where you're keeping them and your air-conditioning situation. Increased temp means less oxygen in the water. Check temp for sure.

temp is 82, 90gal 3 red bellies, about 4-5 inches, no air stone

i put a air stone in it and they are not doing it any more, it has a fluval 405

ANy tank that size I would recommend an airstone but thats just me I guess.

wow i have 7 ps ina 125 w/ a fluval 405 they are doing just fine...i hope to get a fx5 once i save enough money i have 2 power heads though

check your water parameters. You are probably getting some ammonia spike.
