They are not wimps my 14 incher tried to kill a 6 inch pearsei cichlid! He/she would have suck seeded if i did not remove the pearsei cichlid! He shows my Asian upside down catfish who is boss but i am putting the Asian upsidown catfish in a other tank and sometimes attacks his 12 inch pleco buddy! mabey some are wimps but some are plain mean????

I don't believe for one second that anyone thinks they are 'wimpy' fish. They've proven to hold their own time and time again, now common, thats a word you'll probably here a lot when talking about Oscars, full of personality but extremely common throughout the hobby.

Oscars can be a little agressive but compared to others like the Red Devil they really are not. And compareing agression agaisnt pearsi really dont say much because pearsi's are not aggressive at all. Your compareing the aggression of an Oscar to a Pearsi then of course the Oscar going to be the "mean" one, but put a dovi or devil of the same size and you will see that Oscar are not that aggressive.

Oscars (like Jack Dempseys) have a reputation as aggressive fish. That being the case, when people placed them with much more aggressive fish (red devils, festae, etc), many were slaughtered. This changed the perception of the oscar to where some describe them as "wimpy". In my personal keeping of oscars, I have seen them be aggressive feeders, but they are quickly bullied by others. My true parrot bullies my oscar and the oscar is nearly double the parrot's size.

At the lfs I used to manage, someone traded in a very large oscar. We measured it out of water at 15 inches lip to end of tail. This oscar grew up alone in a 90g and was incredibly aggressive to the point where we had to isolate him from causing additional trauma to larger parachromis.

In my experience w oscars they aren't usually instigators UNLESS: feeding time, raised alone or cramped living conditions. Would you mind giving details on tank size, full stock list and decor/territory setup?

Ditto.

Oscars are definitely aggressive, just not typically as aggressive as many other Central/South American cichlids. The pearsei is also among the more mild-mannered Centrals, and the fact that your O is more than double his size doesn't help your case either.

Because they are in tanks with cichlids that are a lot more aggressive then they are. I also think they get compared with these same fish because of its size, their personalities, and how they eat.

I think they are beautiful fish but have no business in a tank with MIdevils, Dovii's, and other hyper aggressive fish.

i have a 75 gallon tank with 1 14 inch Oscar and 1 12 inch pleco (not shur what type of Pleco it came with the tank) and an 8 inch Asian upside down catfish that i am putting in the tank i get for chrismas

Oscars like all other cichlids can be aggressive under certain circumstances. Your Pearsei also has the potential to become aggressive some time. It all depends on the individual fish and the circumstances. But in comparison with some of the more aggressive cichlids, Oscars are not usually on the same level. I wouldn't exactly call them wimps though.
