Why Do We Buy Fish That Grow Bigger Than Our Tank?

The initial purchase of say a tank, filter, decor and fish is often dictated by budget. When we start out we are kind of feeling the waters so to speak. We get comfortable after a while with or tank regimen and soon begin to lose interest. A trip to the local wet pet dealer and that Pacu that always seems to smile when he looks at you pricks your intrest and on an impulse, fully aware of the future with this animal and the inevitable consequences of ownership, we take said fish home an plop him in the tank. "He's only 3"..." I got plenty of time to get a new tank..."

If we are honest, we actually do care what the wife says and she says, "nope."
So now we have to beg.
So that is it. We want what we shouldn't have just by human nature. The people that actually take the initiative to step out of the readily available purchased aquarium and build a monster tank or pond....those are the ones we inside wife pleasers look up to and someday want to be like....
So in a nut shell, it's the guys with balls to build that are to blame....pun intended.

we buy big fish because this is MFK.... some do it better than others and we all gotta start somewhere. too much nay saying these days and tank bashing. noone starts with a 5k gallon tank and 3 fish to put in it. lets be realistic and let people enjoy the hobby before it disapears all together. Tanks are never big enough, its all part of the game. Do u give up or keep building? choice is urs...

ok, guess a story needed here, some years back, My son noticed we had a 10g tank laying around in the garage, he pestered me for a few weeks about getting a fish for it. I finally said ok, get in the car hit the LFS and see what they have. He wanted this little bulls eye cat because it looked kinda like a shark, I says ok, I was looking around and this little Tiger Oscar caught my eye, maybe 1.5" and decided these what we getting. little mom and pop LFS never said anything. so with tank already set up we bring them, and I get on the internet and start researching this fish. needles to say, OH S^&*T,
told the wife we needed a bigger tank ASAP. this setup getting the 30g. knowing that not last long setup getting the 75. which led to the 90g, this lead to the 180g, the 145g wild Jag tank, the 95g single oscar tank, and a 75g JD that i have sense moved on.

we do not all intend to get fish to big for our tanks, but if you do, do whats necessary to house that fish properly. or take it back

I was taking my wife to get a massage at this Asian place and saw a 20 gallon with about 6 XL parrots and one 10 inch Oscar. Literally they couldn't even move. That Oscar had hole in the head too...

Of course, those fish in the tank I mentioned died years ago. Here's a current tank at another restaurant in our town.

I have to agree with Wednesday13 time to end the bashing and enjoy the hobby. It seems like every 2 days some one is bashing some one about their tank and fish choice.
