Because of the length of time it takes themto get the that "big" size, it makes them almost like children. You become proud of the fact that you have had this one since it was only two inches long and now look at how big he/she is.

well said..and also how diffucult it is too keep them healthy when they are young....

I like them when they are small and colorful and active. Not when they are lazy, have dull colors and huge!!

Small CLs FTW!!!
Yeah the ten incher in both photos looks really lazy and dull :screwy:
But seriously they just need enough room and good current and food fishaddict401 and the big fish are as colourful and active as small fish.

Justin Guest, Those are Freaking Beautiful!!! Right now my biggest is about 4-5 inches and will soon (i hope) be moving everyone into a 220 Gallon tank where they will have room to grow. At the moment I plan on having 24 in the 220. That may increase though.....

And I have to definately agree that too many people have "cool fish of the week rage" IMO the best tanks are ones that try to recreate as natural of a habitat as possible (some fudging for a good look is necessary). When CL's are happy they are a blast to watch!!

I think they're kinda goofy looking personally. But I can't help myself from watching em when I visit the lfs though, very interesting fish haha

wow! how long have you had theses? do your cl's ever lay upside down like they are dead?

Nice clowns! The satisfaction from growing them out makes them all the more special fish. Takes a dedicated fishkeeper and lotsa patience to grow out a group of nice CLs. I'm working on it... 2.5 years now and they've gotten 5". One recent 2" addition to bump the school up to 6.

OP got pwned

Keeping a fish for more then a few weeks is an accomplishment, one day you will appreciate this. With you kids these days it's just flavor of the week. I see it's dats this week

There is a difference between being a hobbiest, and keeping your fish, and having a short term infatuation.

I see lots of folks here saying it is the joy of raising your loach, how long have each of you had your current loaches? My group of 7, I have had a little over 5 years.

they take so long to grow big that it is quite an accomplisment to succeed.... i have had mine 4 years now... and finally they are getting to be from 3 to 4, 5 inches ..all grow differently too.. since they were all about the same size when i got them... and to be honest ...they deserve it... they are a great happy personable fish.... :)View attachment 468406
