Why does my tank smell like a rotting fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
then it shuldnt hurt but dont belive the fewer water changes thing if ya know what i mean;)

Oh yeah definately I do 2x 25% water changes a week with all my tanks

I can't see why you would have a .5 ammonia reading and not be worried.
If it's an already cycled tank you don't have enough filtration to keep up with the load.
What are you filtering GPH wise?
If it's not at 1000 gph that's your problem.
You should be messing with the filters monthly atleast.

yeah haha

usually my tanks stinks after feedings. but goes away in an hour or so.

well Ill work on my tank and see if the stink goes away after tonight and the water change and get back to you guys

i had this problem once from overfeeding. when i was doing waterchanges i would also hoover the crap up at the same time and i thought i was doing a good job. couldnt figure out where the smell was from and i had to start moving rocks because excess food and fish poo were under them rotting.

You should use more carbon in ur filter. i think we were just talking about our filters and what i do is since our filters have 3 layers i use carbon bags on two of them and bio balls on the top one. it makes it smell nice and non existant lol
