Why dont we get Southern SA Rays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Only just saw this thread!

I have two rays from paraguay one of which is in my avatar. Both now have fully mature claspers at around 8" disk.

I have spoken to the LFS where they came from and the difficulty is making up a decent order to come out of Paraguay. Apparently the high value fish just aren't available on anyone's lists. So even when the odd ray comes up it's too expensive to import most of the time. It's a shame as I'd love to see more of these rays in the hobby.

When I was in Paraguay I was talking to some fishermen and they claimed a few days prior they had caught a 4' ray. The only thing I could understand about it was that it was brown

My fiancee is from Paraguay and we are hoping to go down and visit her family in the next year or two. Id love to bring back a ray like najiru has in his avatar! I love it!

Hey Anders,

I do still have the ray you're thinking of but it's not black but very dark brown. It's the other one that's from Paraguay. Again a very nice ray IMO.

I don't know the logistics of it but it seems strange that if there are lots of rays there (as someone sugested earlier) that full orders of rays can't be put together?

JD - If you get some be sure to get me a couple more too :naughty:

I wounder how hard it is to bring back a ray with you when you visit there...???

Anyone know of any exporters from Paraguay or the deep south? I'd be interested in seeing some lists and figuring out some costs anyways.

I would REALLY like to find out more about these rays. I cant seem to find information anywhere. Im also interested to see actually how far south they range. I know that some parts of Paraguay can get a little on the cool side.

Beisdes the ray in nariju's avatar could be a GREAT ray to have in the hobby. They are beautiful and appear to be a smaller species.
