Well said!!!! I have had that same gripe about select people on this web-site for a long time. There is nothing that I need to ad other than to agree 100% with your views on this subject.

Well I enjoy the hobby, guess I will leave this thread and stay away from negative people...

I actually think Flyin Lizard's rant is pretty damn positive. Its a rant at a hell of a lot people, not just you (and you did have your reasons), and I think it needs said. You cant just have all these posts about 'irresponsible' fishkeeping and no posts telling the 'naive' that it's wrong, or they'll never know.

Here is a postive post. The thread I posted that the OP is talking about, I received a lot of good information from a variety of opinions. Even if some do not agree, I did appreciate the advice from the variety of opinions. If there was just one person posting about what he thinks his opinion is right and the others are wrong then there is no use for the forum.

To me, posting such a negative thread will just make people scared to post and be scared of being attacked which is very negative in my view. So the advice I give is just to ignore negative threads which I am going to do right now.

:irked::irked: I'm sorry but I need to vent..:irked::irked:

Lately is seems that more people are getting fish they either have very little knowledge of they just get it because its "cool". Almost anything you wish to know about most of the LARGE fish that we keep, is here someplace on this site and easy to find. Seeing statements like "I don't have time or don't have the patience to read the whole thread" is just garbage. Are you going to "have the time" to prepare food,do water changes, clean filters, do water tests?

Feeding, talk about a can of worms ,lots of diff.views. For me, I feed my fish every day. I don't feed them till they look like balloons with fins, just a nice smooth somewhat round belly. Also alternate the amount and type of food from day to day and sometimes I do skip one day. Why would someone get a fish that grows fast and large like a RTC then ask if I only feed it once a week will it grow more slowly so I can keep it longer in my 100 gallon tank and then get cranky when someone tells them the facts. If you don't plan on providing a fish with correct food and housing FROM THE BEGINNING, DON'T GET IT.. The plan of" I will buy it now as a baby and upgrade later" is just not good. Situations change ,money gets spent elsewhere and the fish is stuck in a small tank.

Another problem,,I will buy it ,keep it for a while then sell it when it gets to big for my tank,, ,you hope ,, not always easy to move a 10 or 12 inch fish..

This is a GREAT site to ask questions, share experiences and info and to learn, I just wish more people would make better decisions about what fish they try to keep.

Ok I am done now......

i agree and i hated absolutly hated having to sell my tsns...that fell into the changing in plans...

This seems a little unfair to people who are just getting into the hobby. Although I do think it's irresponsible to buy a fish that you cannot house or financially support its diet.

Sometimes people make decisions that aren't the brightest. That's why we have this site to help them learn and hopefully teach them how to keep that fish for life. If it were a perfect world then everyone would do their research. Sometimes things change, and if you can't adapt and learn your pets will suffer for it. I should know better than most. All of my fish are either rehoused or dead due to a divorce. Hopefully everyone on here has the best intentions for their fish. I know that I and most people on here have purchased fish in the past that they could not properly house simply because they wanted it. After you make that decision though you had better be prepared to do what's necessary to make things right. Good luck to all in your catfish keeping.

+1 well said... and honest. and this doesn't just go for catfish keepers but all fishkeepers. Though the catfish keepers are a whole different breed in themselves ;) in a good way. :naughty:

IMHO This thread is very well said without being rude to anyone specific, and actually very good overall. Everyone does need to keep in mind the poor saps who get duped by an unscrupulous LFS into buying something that no way should go into that big 29 gallon tank at home and then (hopefully) learn afterwards that their fish doesn't really grow "only to the tank size". There are so many people with so much knowledge on this site that it's not funny, there are also so many varied and different points of view here that sometimes it is easier to start a thread and get the quick opinions than to try and read every post about your subject, weeding out the "hey bob how's your dat doin these days?" posts in the middle of them or the few flame shots that get thrown out there because someone is frustrated by the same question again.
For the most part everyone on MFK is relatively polite (considering some of the questions that are asked) and extremely helpfull to those of us that are relatively new to the hobby or are thinking about getting into the hobby. Every so often someone will come off as a bit rude or opinionated, I myself have done this before and did state back to the person that it was not intentional, I am just naturally an AH.
Let's not forget that some people are just easily offended and/or are looking to be offended. I would guess that a lot of people on here are a little sarcastic and a little bit of a smart aleck as well. That is almost impossible to convey through typed conversations. Even when you personally know the person well. Ok enough rambling.

To the people with years and years of experience, keep giving us the advice we need.
To the people who are trying to get that experience without killing every fish you ever buy, don't take it personal, it (hopefully) isn't intended to be. And sometimes, jsut like when you were a kid, you know your gonna get yelled at for doing something stupid, and we have all done something stupid at least once, sometimes even twice or thrice!!

I feel your pain, when people come to the house and see (jaws) my 16in royal clown knife they ask if they should get one so i ask what size tank do you have and its normally a 30 or a 55gl or i don't know, man i try my best to find all the info i can about something before i pick it up or out, because this something bit me in the butt when i picked up what i thought to be just a large bumblebee cat and in fact it was a very vicious fish that killed my tsn :(
