Why have you quit the hobby?

Bad luck on my side with a few prized fish killed my love of the hobby , just kept one tank and for now im happy as is , im slowly returning to the reptile hobby and may return in full force to fish keeping.

About 3 years ago i left the hobby for about a year, i got bored with my 25g, my solution was that i got a whites tree frog and kept it in the tank. But it was rather boring. So i turned the tank into an aquarium, got a 100g, 40g, 14g and a 2g. That is my current position, and i have never been as active on mfk as i am now, i am growing out an endli, lap and a jardini, will take long to get bored with them.

IF YOU GET BORED:
Dont quit the hobby, try something else, if you have american cichlids, get malawi or tanganyika, dwarfs, rainbows or some monsters. I you have tryed this all or keep all in different tanks, set up some smaller tanks and find something easy to breed, then something harder, things will not get boring if you have a decent breeding facility with a few species of fish.

I left the hobby about 2 years ago do to a job where I work in Alaska but live in Indiana and am gone for 3 - 4 months at a time. My 18 yr-old son has taken over my tanks and is keeping Oscars. If I ever change careers, I will be back into the hobby but for now it is back to work.

Personal matters are top priority and the reason why I left for a brief period but eventually came back.

I started this hobby back in the year of 1997 til 2001, I had various size tank gallons from 20/33/45/72/235 and various types of monster fish. I sold everything and quit in 2001 because I had to move to a different city for work and couldn't bring everything with me. I stayed out of the hobby for 8 years because I just didn't have the time but I never lost the interest of keeping fish. I have many friends who are still into it and I go to the LFS with them once in a while. During the long 8 years I had other hobbys(modifying cars and taking them to the local race tracks) but currently today I finally got back into the aquarist hobby and started with much larger tanks instead of having a bunch of little ones. For me since I have somewhat the experience, I either go big or go home;)

Can't keep up with school and work. School was never easy for me by any means and when you add in 37+ hours of work plus 13 credit hours of school...it's hectic. But I love the money, and still have the tanks just neglected at times.

I have never quit the hobby in 22+ years. I have downsized to one tank at one point in my life
for a couple of years. But that is when I developed some other bad hobbies.:naughty:
