300 is a good start. Just kidding. Depending on your age and money situation try to sit with them calmly and tell them how this is a passion of yours and how it would be nice if you were supported. Compared to everything else going on in todays world its a great alternative to other more insidious things that one could get into. You can also show them how it will make you more responsible in terms of what it takes to take care of such a big project.

If they dont go for it then suggest a happy middle ground, how about a 240 as a show of good faith?

im 14 and i know a guy with a 300 w/ stand and full setup (lights and filtration and decor) for $200. id jump on this but my parents need to be convinced. this is the goal of this thread.

200.00....I'd buy it and take my chances.....then show them what a brand new set up would cost...I think they would appreciate the savings....

If you know a guy selling you his 300g setup for $200.00 your parents would be fools to not let you get it just for the amount of money you would save if you got it now, stored it, then set it up later.

thats what i tell them but theyre obsessed with the notion that they would be taking care of it and i said "have you ever even had to lift a finger to take care of any of my fish before?" they say "no i guess not" "exactly" but they need a little push. as soon as i cash my life savings of coins (for this purpose) i might just have to get it on my own and then they really dont have much of a choice. but id have to work up alot of guts to pull that one off lol.

i would except i have to communicate with the guy through my uncle who i only see once a week (shouldnt say only but its not enough when trying to buy an aquarium) and i have to scrape my money around to get it. i will tho
